It becomes apparent that all of the concerns address impervious cover in one way or another, with ten identifying the need to “preserve green space” as number one.  Three respondents identified impervious cover as the number one issue.  Is it a familiarity with terms that confounds the interpretation?

The membership is apparently pleased with the RGMC’s role in oversight of comprehensive plan amendments.  The number one issue appears to be stewardship through civic engagement.  It is clear this means preparation for litigation, fundraising and taking a stand on the issue of CR-951.  Almost as many members mention the need involvement with Community Plans and collaborating to reach consensus on these issues. The possibility of an extension for CR951 is an immediate concern.  Members prefer either the no-build option or keeping the road as far west as possible.  Several mentioned the need for wildlife crossings and a raised limited access roadway.

Virtually all members approve of the RGMC using funds to support whistleblower lawsuits (with a single dissenting voice) and providing funds to help purchase land.

The purchase of Babcock Ranch, a concern about the lack of economic diversity, Smart Growth policy implementation, helping promote interagency collaboration, and controlling sprawl through promotion of urban renewal, were also suggested as important issues to address.

It is clear the RGMC has plenty to do.

The RGMC board members will need the support of the membership to achieve these goals by helping with the roles identified as critical.  Perhaps of primary concern is to expand our membership base, and raise funds.
